15:20 - 15:40   Paper 8

Graphical System Design

Ian Bell, National Instruments

To do this, we will first take a step back and look at virtual instrumentation and where we’re coming from as company.  Our history at National Instruments has proven a model of bringing together fragmented markets, leveraging standard, off-the-shelf technology, and delivering an integrated, easy-to-use hardware and software platform.  This approach has made virtual instrumentation the standard and is applicable in design as well.
We will also discuss the concept of Graphical System design as an enabling and more productive approach to embedded system development.  In doing so, we will review the challenges of Embedded Design today and address those challenges by:
Explaining why graphical programming for embedded systems is a better approach
Demonstrating the imperative need for an off-the-shelf, extensible prototyping platform to decrease time to market and design quality
Reviewing custom deployment options
Combining these factors means that fundamentally, Graphical System Design will expand the pool of embedded system developers.
