Multi-core challenges, techniques and usage patterns

Stuart Newton, Wind River

Multi-core and multi-processing technologies have been around for many years in math-intensive digital signal or image processing applications, and are already prevalent in today’s system-on-chip designs.  With multi-core expanding dramatically into other sectors through the optimized use of advanced process technologies, the advantages and potential for multi-core designs are becoming more widely understood.  The core architectures and software technologies used are strongly dependent on the target device market, and bring with them different requirements for performance, power, thread optimization, and development tools.  This session will focus on usage scenarios of multi-core technologies, and will discuss the impact on system design, tools, and data exchange for device software optimization in a multi-core environment.
