Paper 2
Intel Multi-core Architechtures
Mark Green, Intel TME
By the end of 2006, most of the processors Intel ships will be Multi-Core (Dual-Core initially). Future generations will increase this percentage and see us move to more cores per chip. Moore's law is not slowing down, and Intel is embracing multi-core. Single threaded apps will see improvement as Intel improves the microarchitechtures and boosts frequencies, but not as fast as if the app. is rearchitechtured for multi-core. This session investigates Intel's Multi-Core Architechtures, firstly focussed on Dual Core implementations.
